Ottawa, September 12, 2019 – Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival Proudly Hosts the 2nd IIDBF World Ice Dragon Boat Championships on February 7-8, 2020!

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada will host 100 teams, made up of over 1200 participants, who will all have the opportunity to compete to represent their country and have the honour of being named World Champions!

The first successful IIDBF World Ice Dragon Boat Championships were held in Longze Lake, Duolun County, Inner Mongolia, China. The World Championships featured more than 300 athletes from United States, Britain, Germany, Canada, with 23 countries and regions participating.

International Ice Dragon Boat Federation (IIDBF) is the official organization of ice dragon boating which is dedicated to the spread and development of the sport of ice dragon boat worldwide.

The 2nd IIDBF World Ice Dragon Boat Championships will take place on the historic Rideau Canal Skateway, competitors will thrill visitors to the National Capital Region and Winterlude by racing along the frozen surface of the World’s Largest Skating Rink and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Boats are equipped with skate-like blades and participants propel themselves along the 200-meter race course using spiked ice-picks, to the delight of record crowds.

In addition to hosting the world’s largest ice dragon boat race, the festival is a world class event that offers free concerts, family fun, all aged activities, traditional Aboriginal dancers, Success lion dancers and many more festivities.

The event provides an East-meets-West experience that honours the roots of dragon boating as a Chinese sport and combines it with Canadian winter sport culture.

The Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival annually sells out and organizers are expecting a great response to today’s news.
