Alanna Sterling is a gender-fluid vocal shapeshifter and multi-instrumentalist who is a staunch advocate for mental health. Their passion is to create music from life’s struggles, inspiring others to overcome their battles. Alanna started playing piano at age 2 and immersed themselves in various art forms, including music, visual arts, dance, drama, and literature. During their teenage years, they learned over 40 instruments and began writing poetry to cope with bullying, trauma, social anxiety, and depression. Music became their salvation, boosting their confidence. Alanna started composing songs at 12, with most remaining unpublished.
Now, Alanna, also known as “MermaidUnicorn” (or ‘Merms’ on Twitch), has a devoted community of over 49k followers who also tune into their weekly broadcasts, growing their emerging profile. In June 2022, they released the album “Mind / Matter,” a heartfelt audio diary chronicling their mental health journey.
